My New Adventure: Virtual Reality

When you pull out your camera, do your kids say, “Here comes the paparazzi- Hide!” Ok, I have teenagers and they tend to dramatize everything. What can I say, I love taking pictures. If this sounds like your life then you might enjoy this blog as I share my experiences of learning in the world of photography.

A little about me

My dad is a retired art and photography teacher. When I was younger, family picture time always took a while. Now, I do the same thing to my kids. My favorite things to take pictures of are just about everything. My family, sports, prom, nature, and more recently, I am learning to photograph virtual tours.

One of the best inventions ever has to be the camera phone. I love always having a camera with me. Just this morning I was taking pictures of the beautiful pink and orange sunrise. I can’t stop taking pictures. I have never officially (until now) taken a photography class but I am continuously seeking out ways to improve my photos. My dad is a great wealth of knowledge and so is the internet.

I am a Digital Media major at Utah Valley University and this semester I am taking a virtual reality class. This is actually my first photography class. I am learning to take HDR images and put them together in a virtual tour. This is not your typical photography class and there are not many virtual photographers out there, so I figure this is a great time to jump in.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality sounds so futuristic, but I am learning it is already here. Virtual tours are a great way to share an experience of being someplace without having to go there. Just think of the possibilities. I can show my parents a virtual tour of my family vacation to Oceanside, California. It will be like they were there with us. Our pictures will show not just one view but they can look up, down, behind and get all the views as if they were there. VR is definitely a direction I want to pursue.

Conclusion

Sharing your experience and knowledge is a great way to learn more about a subject. Through this blog I hope to not only share my experiences and small amounts of knowledge, but I hope others will share their knowledge and experiences as well.
